Import from CSV

Rail Ops allows you to import locomotives and cars from CSV files. If you have your roster in JMRI, we highly recommend you use our Rail Ops' JMRI Plugin instead.

Similar to the Plugin Sync, the CSV import will compare against the Road Name and Number of each item in the roster. If a matching item (per collection) is not found it will be created; otherwise it will be updated. Unlike the Plugin however, the CSV import will not delete items from your Rail Ops roster.

To import from a CSV file:

1. Download a sample CSV file and enter or migrate your roster information to it.
   • Locomotives
   • Cars
2. Save the file on your computer as a .csv file.
3. Log into your Rail Ops account and navigate to Locomotives or Cars.
4. Click the "three dot" menu on the right side of the screen, then click "Import from CSV"
5. Choose a collection you want to import into and then choose your file.
6. Click the "import" button

After the import is complete, your roster will automatically refresh to reflect the changes made. The changes will also be noted in the collection's Sync Log.
